Plumas Lake Moms Group About Us Page

The Plumas Lake Moms Group was founded in January 2005 by a mom who had just moved to the area and was eager to meet other families with children. She distributed flyers door-to-door to get the word out that she wanted to start a moms group in the area and slowly, with help from every member, the PLMG grew. The group totals more than 100 members and is growing every month! Our mission is to provide friendship, support and a sense of community to the families that have moved to the Plumas Lake area.

We offer a variety of events that provide opportunities for our children to have fun, learn social skills, and make new friends. At the same time, this provides opportunities for moms to engage in adult conversation and activities and make new friends as well.

As we continue to grow as a group, we are adding new activities and changing old ones to better suit our members. We want to maintain the close, friendly atmosphere of a small group while making sure we meet the needs of a large group.

The Plumas Lake Moms Group currently offers the following activities:

	Playgroups We offer age-specific playgroups that meet once a week. Each group has between 6-10 families and each member rotates hosting the playgroup. The playgroups are great for giving your kids some playtime with other children and giving you a chance to meet other moms in the area who have children around the same age.
	Field Trips Sometimes it's nice to get out of Plumas Lake and take the kids somewhere fun in the neighboring cities. In the past we have done field trips to the Sacramento Zoo, Bishops Pumpkin Farm, the Roseville Galleria Mall, storytime at the Yuba City and Marysville libraries, and the splash park in Yuba City. Moms that have a great idea for a field trip are welcome to share their ideas at the monthly moms meeting.
	Moms Night Out Once a month we try to organize a night out for moms to hang out with other women and blow off some steam! Some events we have done in the past are seeing a “chick flick” movie, bowling, meeting at a restaurant, and fixing meals at Dinner My Way.
	Sunshine Meals This is an "extra" service offered by our group as a way to reach out and support our fellow members when challenging life events occur. Members volunteer to provide a meal to another member and her family when a birth, major illness, death or other incapacitating circumstance arises in the family.
	Park Days We try to meet at a neighborhood park at least a couple times a month, as weather permits. The park days are planned at the monthly mom's meeting and are open to all group members.
	Book Club The Book Club meets monthly to discuss a book that has been chosen by one of our members. Each month a new member chooses the book that the club will read for the next month.
	Scrapbook Club The Scrapbook Club meets once a month and is a great opportunity to meet and scrapbook with other enthusiasts in the Plumas Lake area.
	Bunco Bunco is a fun, fast-paced dice game that is easy to learn and plays in a rotating fashion so each of the twelve members gets a chance to talk and play with everyone in the group. Bunco meets once a month at a member's house for dinner and game playing.
	Family Dinner Groups Family dinner groups will consist of three families which rotate having dinner at each other's house once a month for three months. After three months the families will be organized into a new dinner group. Open to anyone who wants to get to know other families in the moms group.
	Community Service Projects The Moms Group sponsors two fundraisers a year to benefit local charities that help women and children, but participation is completely voluntary. As an ongoing project, a member collects and takes gently used clothing, art supplies and games to the U.C. Davis Children's Hospital on a regular basis. We also support Scholastic Book Orders and use the points earned to donate to a local Book Buggy that distributes books to low-income families. More detailed information about current Community Service Projects is distributed at mom's meetings.
	Family Nights We offer different events throughout the year for the entire family to attend! Events like our Family Bar-B-Q, Ice-Cream Social and Pizza Nights gives dads, school-age children and the whole family time to meet and socialize together.
	Charity Run/Walks The Moms Group signs up for various charity run/walks that anyone in the group can participate in.
	3rd to 6th Grade Group Activities such as movie night and pick-up basketball games are planned monthly for children in this grade range.
